This piece is linked to States of Innocence (2024), my opera inspired by John Milton's epic poem, Paradise Lost (1674). The music accompanies the scenes associated with the Fall.

Ground is a 17th century form featuring a repeating bass line over which instrumental lines are woven. Two of the instrumentalists have elaborate lines in canon (imitation).

The piece is available in several arrangements including strings, ensemble, solo cello and piano.
